Finding Peace and Purpose at Botanical Garden Events

Not long ago, I went to one of those local botanical garden events. You know the kind. Sunshine, flowers, that slightly earthy smell in the air that tells you everything is alive and blooming. It was one of those perfect afternoons where time slows down just enough for you to actually notice the world around you.

As I wandered through rows of vibrant tulips and buzzing bees, I found myself thinking about families who don't get days like this. Families who are spending their time in hospitals, sitting next to their child's bed, just hoping for a good night’s sleep and a little bit of good news.

At Ronald McDonald House Charities, we meet these families every day. Our house isn’t filled with roses or winding garden paths, but it’s filled with warmth, care, and comfort. It’s a place where parents can catch their breath, even if just for a moment.

What struck me most at the garden event wasn’t just the beauty. It was the effort behind it. Every flower planted, every path cleared, every bench placed—it all took time and intention. That’s kind of how we see our mission. We don’t just offer a room. We offer peace, support, and a chance to feel a little more human during really hard times.

If botanical garden events fill your soul like they do mine, I invite you to learn more about what we do at RMHC Norfolk. You can visit us at rmhcnorfolk.org and see how even small acts of kindness can grow into something beautiful.
